Amazon.com Review Fans of the National Geographic Channel's The Dog Whisperer with Cesar Millan will be grateful for Cesar's Way, an accessible guide to help new and current dog owners better understand the needs of their beloved pets. If you are not yet a fan, try to catch a couple of episodes of the remarkable show--you will be amazed, impressed, and motivated to create a healthier, more fulfilling relationship with your dog. In Cesar's Way, Cesar explains that dogs are not complicated, and despite what various owners think--not human. They rely on three key elements in their lives: exercise, discipline, and affection (in that order). "Problem dogs" can be attributed to "problem owners," owners who don't understand and misinterpret their dog's behavior. Cesar's Way is really a training program for dog owners, with chapters devoted to understanding the "power of the pack," taking responsibility for "how we screw up our dogs," and learning how to manage aggression. Cesar's book (a must-have for new and old dog owners) moves beyond basic obedience school techniques, and teaches owners how to change unwanted behavior by better understanding their "best friends." --Daphne Durham Exclusive Video from Cesar Millan

Cesar Millan's Top 5 Tips for Going to the Dog Park
1. Make sure your dog is spayed or neutered, has all her shots, and is in good health. Under no circumstances should you bring a sick dog to a dog park!
2. Do not use the dog park as a substitute for the walk! If you drive to the park, leave your car a block away and take your dog on a vigorous walk of at least thirty-five minutes to drain some of her energy. Never take an over-excited dog to the park.
3. While at the park, don't "punch out" on your calm-assertive leadership. Be aware of your dog at all times, and take responsibility for her behavior.
4. A calm-submissive dog will not attract another dog's aggression--but an excited dog, a weak, timid dog, or an aggressive dog can become a fight-magnet.
5. Know your dog! If your dog has poor social skills, is overly fearful or is dog aggressive, or if you have not yet established your calm-assertive leadership with your dog, find a more controlled way to introduce her to the company of other dogs, such as "play dates" with one or two other dog owners.
Product Description “I rehabilitate dogs. I train people.” —Cesar Millan
There are at least 68 million dogs in America, and their owners lavish billions of dollars on them every year. So why do so many pampered pets have problems? In this definitive and accessible guide, Cesar Millan—star of National Geographic Channel’s hit show Dog Whisperer with Cesar Millan—reveals what dogs truly need to live a happy and fulfilled life.
From his appearances on The Oprah Winfrey Show to his roster of celebrity clients to his reality television series, Cesar Millan is America’s most sought-after dog-behavior expert. But Cesar is not a trainer in the traditional sense—his expertise lies in his unique ability to comprehend dog psychology. Tracing his own amazing journey from a clay-walled farm in Mexico to the celebrity palaces of Los Angeles, Cesar recounts how he learned what makes dogs tick. In Cesar’s Way, he shares this wisdom, laying the groundwork for you to have stronger, more satisfying relationships with your canine companions.
Cesar’s formula for a contented and balanced dog seems impossibly simple: exercise, discipline, and affection, in that order. Taking readers through the basics of dog psychology and behavior, Cesar shares the inside details of some of his most fascinating cases, using them to illustrate how common behavior issues develop and, more important, how they can be corrected.
Whether you’re having issues with your dog or just want to make a good bond even stronger, this book will give you a deeper appreciation of how your dog sees the world, and it will help make your relationship with your beloved pet a richer and more rewarding one.
Learn what goes on inside your dog’s mind and develop a positive, fulfilling relationship with your best friend
In Cesar’s Way, Cesar Millan—nationally recognized dog expert and star of National Geographic Channel’s hit show Dog Whisperer with Cesar Millan—helps you see the world through the eyes of your dog so you can finally eliminate problem behaviors. You’ll learn:
• What your dog really needs may not be what you’re giving him
• Why a dog’s natural pack instincts are the key to your happy relationship
• How to relate to your dog on a canine level
• There are no “problem breeds,” just problem owners
• Why every dog needs a job
• How to choose a dog who’s right for you and your family
• The difference between discipline and punishment
• And much more!
Filled with fascinating anecdotes about Cesar’s longtime clients, and including forewords by the president of the International Association of Canine Professionals and Jada Pinkett Smith, this is the only book you’ll need to forge a new, more rewarding connection with your four-legged companion.

No quick fix - his "way" requires connecting with nature June 27, 2010 V. Robinson (Central Valley, CA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Cesar's TV show amazed me how the dog owners always blame their dog for having all sorts of "human behavior" type problems. Then Cesar rehabilitates the dog from the sick behavior of the owners only to find they are unable to change their ways.
EXAMPLE: One woman had a hyperactive miniature pinscher that was totally out of control. She never exercised the dog, let alone trained him. Cesar took the dog rollerblading and it came home all happy & tired. The woman wanted to "give doggie a cookie to show how happy mommy is..." and Cesar said - "No! The dog knows how you feel by your energy". But the woman insisted that she had to show doggie how much she loved it by giving a cookie.
At the end of the show Cesar did an update on the woman with that miniature pinscher. She had it put to sleep. Euthanized. Killed. Destroyed. This episode epitomizes the difficulty of Cesar's message; he is delivering uncomfortable information that people don't want to hear.
Most dog lovers, Cesar warns, get angry with him. Like the woman who loved her "little doggie baby" so much she had it killed - people have lost touch with nature to a frightening degree. As a result millions of dogs are destroyed every year.
If you are not a moron, if you respect the spirit in a dog and are in touch with your connection to Mother Nature you'll nod in resonance with Cesar. He's not only a master of martial arts; he's a master of the connection with nature.
When I grew up in the 1950s a dog was "man's best friend". Then life grew crazy and Americans made dogs into mere accessories they could treat like dolls. Today almost all dogs are yakking annoyances whose owners yell the dog's name in various inflections of anger and negativity as if that was how to command it.
Given the obsession with possessions, consumption, and endless yakking on cell phones only about 1 dog owner in 100 will ever reach the bar Cesar sets in this book. Many will criticize him - I've heard that from two professional trainers - but very few will really understand Cesar's simple but powerful message.
Cesar's Way works if you are willing to change yourself. How do I know that? Because my German Shepherd (raised Cesar's Way) is a joy to behold; Tyler accompanies me to Home Depot, Costco, etc. where endless crowds of children of all ages compliment him -and yes, approach him the wrong way (Cesar explains this in his book) but he lets them all touch his lovely face. We're talking a 130 pound full blood wolf looking dog here. He is friendly to other dogs, children and cats. He only barks when I allow it.
But God help you if you ever lay a hand on me in anger. My dog knows all about protecting me without being taught- because of the essential nature Cesar explains brilliantly in this book. All I have to do is make the "Sssstt!" sound and my German Shepherd snaps his attention to me. A smile, nod, playful "Unh-uh", or hand signal and he immediately obeys. Our relationship is like remote control by telepathy and mutual respect.
Cesar is right - I never have to tell my dog "how much daddy loves you..." with a cookie. Tyler senses my energy. He keeps me emotionally balanced just as Cesar predicts. That is what dogs can do for humans - connect us with Mother Nature.
Thank you Cesar Millan! You are a magnificent soul! God bless you and your family. Bravo!
Little Substance: Seen the show once? Skip the book. June 25, 2010 dehalorespire The book is more of a memoir than a how-to for dog owners. The first 70 pages or so are essentially reputation construction through family history, name dropping, and self-aggrandizement. If you want some dog information skip to Chapter 5 or 6; the first discussion of correcting common dog problems comes late in the book. Adding insult to injury, the discussion of dog/owner behavior adjustment suffers from a lack of usable information and a glut of platitudinous pack leader mantra from the show. Unless you are interested Cesar's life prior to the TV deal, skip the book and just watch the show.
Don't expect usefull information. June 24, 2010 Rafael Jimenez (San Ysidro, CA USA) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
He is very good with dogs, in this book he talks about his history and ideas, but not much that will help us be good with dogs. For me, this book is 95% trivial and 5% practical and useful.

We love our favorite plumber but only when we really need to call them. Garbage disposals are the kitchen's workhorse but love to quit at the most inopportune times and many times you can repair or replace the disposal yourself.
Hands down, my most popular tutorial is on repairing your garbage disposal. Repairing them can be surprisingly easy and you can do it. I'll show you how make the repairs you need quickly and possibly save $180 or more in a plumbing service call. In this tutorial, I'll walk you through the most common garbage disposal repairs and also tell you how to avoid clogs and slow draining situations.
And get familiar with how the garbage disposal is constructed with Anatomy of a Garbage Disposal for a graphic overview of the disposal's components. And if it's your sink that's causing trouble, see Unclogging a Sink. Lose the Plumber. Marlingardener is experiencing a mixed blessing: "My good neighbor gave us a handful of multiplying onions, which I planted and ended up with about a peck basket full. I consider myself a good cook, innovative and creative, but I have no idea what to do with these things.
Please, can someone give me an idea of how to use them, a recipe or two or more, preferably more? The alternative is to set up a target and see who can throw the onions and hit the bull's eye. The prize will be a handful of multiplying onions to plant."
I have to confess, I picked this for Question of the Week because I too have a heapin' helping of shallots in my garden. So help us out here, ">what's you favorite way to use shallots?
And if you don't know what multiplier onions are or how to grow shallots, stay tuned; they are going to be the Featured Plant, on Friday.

"Your garden is hardier than you think and there are plenty of gardening tasks for August that will keep your flower and vegetable gardens going longer, as well as opportunities to get a head start on next year's garden plans," says Marie Iannotti. As incredible as it may sound, your August yard to-do list, depending on where you live, may include ordering spring bulbs!
I have to admit that I find Marie's August yard to-do list a bit inconvenient. August is the last hurrah for summer in my region, meaning I want to spend as much time at the beach as possible. Soon enough, autumn will be here and I'll be raking leaves!

If you answered: a kitchen which is ten feet by ten feet, or 100 square feet, you're only halfway there.
The term 10' x 10' kitchen is often used as a convenient yardstick by cabinet manufacturers to symbolize a certain quantity, sizing, and even quality of kitchen cabinets. Even though few houses really have 100 square foot kitchens anymore, this 10' x 10' kitchen cabinetry can be applied to bigger floor plans, if desired.
Most notably, this could represent an L-shaped floor plan of 200 square feet, with the 10' x 10' kitchen on one half of the 200 sq. feet and a kitchen table occupying the other half.
It can also be broken up into kitchens of the same size, but different layouts: galley or corridor-style, or a one-wall layout.
Finally, the 10' x 10' kitchen does tend to represent a kind of contractor-grade set of cabinetry. For the quoted price--and from what I've seen, they tend to hover around the $4,500 to $7,500 range--you get about 11 or 12 cabinets.
