Amazon.com Product Description
This handsome, well-made chaise is tailor-made for soaking up the sun or relaxing by the pool. A unique tray table extends to hold drinks, magazines, and other lounging essentials, then slides back underneath for storage. The back adjusts to five positions--from fully-upright to completely-reclined. Matching cushions can also be purchased to add even more comfort.

The bench's slotted surface allows rain to flow through, rather than collect and damage the wood. The piece is made from kapur wood, a high-density Southeast Asian hardwood with excellent weather-resistant properties. Light enough to move easily around deck or lawn, kapur requires no finishing and is exceptionally-sturdy--with enough oil to repel the ravages of rain, sun, and dew. Rust-resistant hardware and mortise and tenon construction also add to the piece's strength and durability.

Before shipment, your new furniture received a generous application of teak oil. Teak oil provides protection from the ultraviolet sunrays. Left untreated, Kapur will weather to a soft warm shade of gray similar to the weathering of teak. If you prefer to prevent this weathering process, you may apply additional coats of teak oil. The frequency of necessary teak oil applications will depend on the intensity of the sun in your environment, but typically, one or two coats per year is sufficient. Teak oil can usually be found at a marine dealer, hardware store, or internet dealer. If you allow your furniture to weather, you may later decide that you would want to restore it to its original condition. This is possible by using teak cleaner products, also available at most marine dealers and internet dealers. After following the instructions for cleaning, you will want to apply a coat of teak oil to prevent the weathering process.

The lounge's preassembled components fit together easily with the help of an included allen wrench. This item measures 74 inches long, 24 inches wide, and 12-1/2 inches tall. --Mary Park

Product Description
The Strathwood Lounge is ideal for lounging around the pool, back deck or back yard. The back features a 5 position adjustment for upright seating, very relaxed seating or completely flat seating. A very handy tray slides to either side or can rest below the chaise when not in use. For more comfort add a chaise lounge cushion. This sturdy chaise lounge is easily assembled with an adjustable wrench and the supplied allen wrench. The entire chaise is made of hardwood which is an all-weather wood that is dense and durable. hardwood requires no finishing and will not rot when left outdoors where rain and sun will damage other lesser quality woods. Left untreated, hardwood will weather to a soft warm shade of gray similar to the weathering of teak. Sturdy mortise and tenon construction provides the highest quality joinery that will last for many years. Original color can be maintained by applying a seasonal coat of teak oil.

5 out of 5 stars Love it!   February 14, 2010

I wanted to buy a chaise lounge forever and couldn't believe it when I saw this one for the price. When I got it I was even more pleased! I love the wood, looks great, and I love the pull out drink rack, adds to it alot! I live in Las Vegas so I am not expecting it to rain alot, but from reading older reivews I am being cautious of the fact it could bleed onto my patio, so I went to Home Depot and bought a bottle of teak oil, I hope it works. I have no complaints and I would say definately purchase this chair if you are debating. I will write another review when the chair makes it through the hot, sunny vegas summer. So far it's been a great buy! Oh, and I wanted to add the assembly is very simple! Enjoy!

I purchased 3 chaises in the early spring of 2009. We used them every day all summer long, dragging them often from poolside to deck and back. They held beautifully. Wheels are as good as new without any whobble to them at the end of the summer. The sliding tray was used every day, since my hubby is lefthanded and I am righthanded, and our little daughter just liked sliding them in and out. My husband is 6'3 and all though he wished it would be just a tet larger, even he was overall quiet happy with the purchase. Yes, it took some time for him to put them together but as I said, it was all worth it. We got really great vibrant pillows in Cost Plus. they were pricey, almost as much as we paid for the chases, but the overall look and quality could not be beat. Besides, at $89 per chaise, I think we got a bargain!
I highly reccomend this item. It is cheaper to purchase in the winter months as prices tend to go up during the high season.
Good Luck!

5 out of 5 stars Great patio chaise for our deck   December 25, 2009

AFTER the fact - purchasing two of the Strathwood chaise lounge chairs I read the reviews. Many were happy but some were not at all happy. to those that had the red dye run onto their patios, I have had ours outside since getting them, in pouring rain, and not one time has any dye come out of these chairs. Also some said had to run to Home Depot for the right screws or tools that were not put into the shipment, we had no problem and it was very easy to put together. Our two chairs are extremely heavy. Very solid workmanship and not one thing missing nor were they damaged in shipment. Everything about these chairs says quality and where in the world are you going to find chairs like this for this money? Around my area, nowhere. I am very happy with this purhase and want anyone searching to know that. I would recommend these chairs to anyone.

4 out of 5 stars Good for the price   October 5, 2009

Arrived un-damaged. Easy to assemble.
But as others have noted-
Does not sit straight up.
This is not teak. So it has a finish that must be somewhat maintained.
Also, its not that long, so for tall people, it may be an issue.

For the money seems very worth while, just know what you are getting. This is not an equivelent to a $300 chaise.
But for roughly 150(including a cushion and cover), seems a good deal for a wooden chaise.

3 out of 5 stars Some problems   September 29, 2009
Joy C. Valle (Atlanta, GA United States)
Bought a Strathwood chaise lounge for my porch and it arrived promptly and in good condition. Fairly easy to assemble and is comfortable with a pad which I also purchased. It has some design problems, however. The seat will not adjust to sit up fully. All the levels of the seat back are in a fairly prone position. If you want to just bask in the sun or sleep, it is okay but to sit up with your back supported and talk to friends, there is a real problem. My husband modified the chair by placing some stops to hold the back of the seat upright but it is not easy to adjust with the modifications. I am not sure I would buy this product again without a design change.

Repairing Drywall

14 Mar 2010 at 4:08am

A hole in your drywall is never fun, although it may have been caused by fun. Maybe it was from a wild party or maybe someone was making an emphatic "point."

Anyway you look at it (or through it), a hole is a hole and needs to get fixed.

Fortunately there are a few tricks I can show you in How to Repair a Large Hole in Drywall.

For smaller holes caused by doorknobs, kids, toys and other elements of home life there is the tutorial Repairing a Small Hole in Drywall

Don't have holes but just dents, popped nails or drywall tape? Then Tips for Repairing Drywall is the tutorial you need.

And after the repair, you'll have to paint the wall so take a read through Repairing Textured Walls and How to Paint a Room.

Featured Plant: Moss

18 Mar 2010 at 8:11pm

It's that time of year again, when I start to get questions from homeowners about how to remove moss. I can understand not wanting moss on the roof or the side of the house, but it makes a nice, low-maintenance lawn alternative and you can't beat it for adding character to rocks and stone walls.

I won't pretend to be an expert on the different types of moss. That's something I'm saving for my retirement. But I can encourage you to have an open mind about moss and cultivate the moss you have. And for those of you who just can't share my enthusiasm for moss, David Beaulieu has some ideas for getting rid of it.

How to Prune Red Maple Trees

19 Mar 2010 at 3:08am

One of the readers of About.com's Forestry site emailed Guide, Steve Nix with a problem. "I have a red maple that I believe may need pruning," says the reader. "I'm an avid tree grower, and have done my share of pruning, but this tree has me stumped because of it's unusual growth." Photos of the problematic red maple tree in question (posted in the Forestry Forum) reveal why deciding how to prune it will hardly be straightforward.

Most red maple trees, writes Steve, "if in good health and free to grow, need very little pruning." But this is no ordinary red maple tree, as the branching pattern is less than ideal. Not to worry, though. The experts in the Forestry Forum who tackle this question help the reader figure out how to prune this red maple tree by zeroing in on the best growth to keep as a leader.

Concrete Flooring Or...?

18 Mar 2010 at 10:00pm

Maybe I haven't had enough caffeine.  But I'm having a hard time wrapping my mind around this one.

Daltile's Concrete Connection™ line of tiles (Dear Daltile:  Not that I don't like it!  Sincerely, Me).  Let's start with what it is, first of all:

It is glazed porcelain tile with the look of concrete.

Concrete has traditionally been a functional, non-beautiful surface used in factory floors and sidewalks.

Then, at some point, the aesthetes got their mitts on concrete and turned it into an apparently lovely, desirable surface for residential flooring and kitchen counters.

So, this cheap material has been elevated to Beautiful Home status.  Fine.

But now we have porcelain tile, which for thousands of years has achieved the pinnacle of beauty, masquerading as a lowly material--concrete?  Is this regressive?
